JASON BIVINS AND IAN DAVIS, “Benthic” on the Inside Track,
Wednesday 9 p.m.
An outstanding set of duets by two of the Triangle's steadfast
improvisors, electric guitarist Bivins (of The Unstable Ensemble,
Micro-East Collective and others) and drummer Davis (leader of Micro-
East Collective, ex-Bicentennial Quarters, Blue Chair, on and on).
Energetic and thoroughly engaging. Out on Bloomington, IN label Family
Vineyard.

STRUGGLE, HOPE, AND FREEDOM on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday
9 p.m.-midnight
In honor of Black History Month, join your host Nancia Odom for an
exploration of songs that represent struggle, hope, peace, unity and
freedom for persons of color.

Various Artists, “SHAKE THAT THING” on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
A superb collection of obscure up-tempo blues and rocking R&B from the
'50s and '60s, rivalling the long-running Stompin' series. Artists
include Dossie "Thunderbird" Terry, Alexander "Mudcat" Thomas, Delmer
Wilburn & The Mandals, Red Miller & Quartet, The Daps, and Joe McCoy &
His Real McCoys. Out on UK label Still.

GEORGIA STRING BANDS on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
Pre-war Atlanta was host to a fascinating loose-knit group of
African-American string music, often revolving around guitarist Joshua
"Peg Leg" Howell and his "Gang." The program this week will feature
vintage recordings made by Howell's band and other sides including his
mates, fiddler Eddie Anthony (aka "Macon Ed"), guitarist Henry Williams
and other regional artists.

ANDRE AFRAM ASMAR, “Racetothebottom” on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
Los Angelino beatsmith Andre Afram Asmar brings a world of experience to
his Mush release "Racetothebottom". The album places a collage of
Asian, African and Middle Eastern influences over dub-driven rhythmics,
creating diverse, elegantly arranged, catchy tracks. Asmar's album is
a pleasant listen, rich in influence and rewarding for even the nascent
world fan. Hip-hop sensibilities prevail on "Racetothebottom", making
this release another excellent addition to the impressive Mush catalog.
