FROM QUAGMIRE, “Caught In Unknowing” on the Inside Track,
Wednesday 9 p.m.
The second album by this northern Virginia trio is a beautiful wintry
mix of hushed female vocals, gracefully plucked and bowed strings and
percussion, sparse in breadth yet affective well beyond its means. Out
on VHF Records.

POWER POP on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
This week's TNF will feature fun and still fresh power pop from the
seventies. Tune in to enjoy the unstoppable hooks of the Raspberries,
the dB's, the Shoes and more.

GARY WILSON, “Forgotten Lovers” on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
Gary Wilson's '77 cult album You Think You Really Know Me found its way
into many a new heart last year as a Motel Records re-release. It had
his neurotic red lips / metallic-bodied young lovers hang-ups coming
out over top synth-soul grooves that were to die for, so it was
awesome. Now on this new disc - a collection of pre- and post-YTYRKM
recordings (all rare or unreleased) - there's more in the same vein,
with a couple fuller-bodied instrumental funkers a la Barry White, as
well as 2 stabs at jazz-funk. On Motel Records.

THE DYNAMITE BROTHERS on the Backyard BBQ, Sunday 7-8 p.m.
The Dynamite Brothers will be in the WXYC studio with special host John
Rose this Sunday for the Backyard BBQ show. We will be playing
selections from the Bros’ new CD and talking with them about their
recording process, current activities, and future plans (including
their upcoming show on Friday, January 31 at Go! studios).

THE OPUS, “First Contact” on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
Chicago area prduction team Mr. Echoes and Isle of Weight comprise The
Opus. Savvy beatsmiths in their own right, The Opus' dense style
explores elements of electronica, dub, groove, and street beats. The
Opus showcase their beats on approximately half the tracks, and invite
notable emcees Slug, Aesop Rock, Lord 360 and others to participate on
the rest. Due to a limited production run and high demand, original
issues of this album were a rarity; with the Ozone reissue, we now can
all experience the work of this unique Midwestern duo.
