WILD BUNCH, “Story of a Sound System: Mixed by DJ Milo” on the Inside
Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
Fresh new mix on Strut imprint shows what rolling with the Wild Bunch
was like in the early '80s. That's to say, Roni Size, Tricky, Krust,
and future members of Massive Attack, as part of Bristol's boldest
soundsystem, spread it thick with underground club jams and early hip-
hop, and there was no letting up. DJ Milo spins the slick web of tunes
that are this set, including a track by Younger Generation (supposedly
Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, and one of their uberdopest,
too), as well as a vintage electro and a string of invincible disco
bits with crunchy beats.

WOMEN, "BITCHES," AND HIP-HOP on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9
p.m.-midnight
Somewhere along rap’s climb to the top of the popular music charts,
words like "bitch" and "ho" became synonymous with females, and
misogyny began to define virtually all relationships presented in rap
music. Now, rap music is selling more than ever, and in turn negative
images of women in rap music continue to spread. Are all rappers so
hardcore that they don’t need love? Tune in this Thursday for hip hop
that represents women in a positive manner, with some hip hop love
songs thrown in as well. Everyone has a "soft" side, even the most
hardcore gangsta rapper. Set your tape deck recorders for some of the
most sensitive hip hop you’ve never heard.

Various Artists, “HARD TIMES IN THE COUNTRY” on the Inside Track,
Friday 9 p.m.
Virginia old-time reissue label County unveils a gem-laden collection of
vintage recordings (dating from 1927 through 1938) lamenting the
hardships of life in the rural south during the era of the Great
Depression, incorporating varying degrees of humor in their
presentations. Artists include Uncle Dave Macon, Frank Hutchison,
Clarence Ashley and the Carolina Tar Heels.

CHRISTMAS FIDDLE on Hell or High Water, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
Tune in to here some of your favorite Christmas tunes from some local
and not so local yokels.

CARAVAN, “In the Land of Grey and Pink” on the Classic Inside Track,
Sunday 2-3 p.m.
This 1971 release is considered by many to be the pinnacle album by
Caravan, the late-60s and early-70s prog rock juggernaut whose
popularity soared in continental Europe during the time, while
receiving little more than a cult following in their native England.
The album contains an undeniable and decidedly European sense of humor
and charm. They are able in many places to blend jazz and folk with
fantastical elements and mythic storytelling with pastoral qualities
and motifs all throughout, nothing uncommon for the band seeing as JRR
Tolkien was always cited as one of their biggest inspirations.

PHOTON BAND, “It’s a Lonely Planet” on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
The forth release from Philadelphia's The Photon Band is your perfect
comfort on these cold fall evenings. Reminiscent of some sort of Marc
Bolan/Brian Wilson collaboration, the album is an engaging listen
highlighting the Band's articulate play. Wilson-esque melodies break
through the deceiving lo-fi recording, proving The Photon Band is truly
in tune with their better pop sensibilities. "Its a Lonely Planet" is a
lush, psychedelic album, and not lonely at all.
