DEAD HOLLYWOOD STARS, "Junctions" on the Inside Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
DHS is a Belgian trio of John Sellekaers, Herve Thomas, C-drik Fermont,
whose stock in trade is synthesizing the evocative atmospherics of the
Wild West with trappings of new electronic music - "spaghetti western
ambient" as some observers have it. Morricone, Paris, Texas-era Ry Cooder,
and Angelo Badalamenti made digital. A split release on Mad Monkey and
Hymen Records.

TURKEY MUSIC on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.
An in-depth exploration of the Thanksgiving fowl through music and sound,
with appearances from other poultry and traditionally less edible birds.
Listeners are encouraged to call in with fun facts about turkeys.

MATT MANERI feat. JOE MCPHEE, "Sustain" on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
The latest release in Thirsty Ear's Blue Series of electronics-spiked
jazz, from violaist Maneri along with an ensemble featuring McPhee on
soprano saxophone, Craig Taborn on electric keyboards and piano, William
Parker on bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums. High-level, otherworldly
improvising that recalls the spacious aura of Miles Davis's live electric
recordings from the mid-70s.

BAILES BROTHERS feat. SHOT JACKSON on Hell or Highwater, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
The 1940s were a transitional decade in the evolution of country music
from its old-time Appalachian roots, and West Virginia-bred stars the
Bailes Brothers were one of the prime movers - largely due to the presence
of electric (non-pedal) steel guitar, played by session great Shot
Jackson, in their otherwise Appalachian sounding band. This program will
feature a variety of their commercial recordings for Columbia and King, in
addition to some radio transcriptions from performances for Shreveport,
Louisiana station KWKH.

Various Artists, " TRADITIONAL MUSIC OF PERU 8: PIURA" on the Inside
Track, Monday 9 p.m.
The eighth and final volume in Smithsonian Folkways' extensive
investigation of the rich musical heritage of the Peruvian Andes is a
splendid one, focusing on coastal emanations that range from solo acapella
sacred singing to intricate string bands, wild and woolly marching brass
bands, flute/drum duos for dance and more.
