BILLY BRAGG on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
This week's Thursday Night Feature will cover the music of English
singer-songwriter Billy Bragg, who will be making one of his rare
Triangle appearances on Wednesday, October 23 at the Cat's Cradle. The
3-hour special will cover all of Billy's recording career, starting with
1983's "Life's a Riot with Spy vs. Spy" and ending with this year's
"England, Half-English." Many unreleased songs and live tracks will
also be played.

SAM RIVERS, "Crystals" on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday 2-3 p.m.
"Crystals", saxophonist and band-leader Sam Rivers' 1974 album, comes
from a recording session featuring over 50 musicians, including drummer
Andrew Cyrille, baritone saxophonist Hamiet Bluiett, and bassist Reggie
Workman. On this album Rivers moves into experimental big band
territory, playing a mix of raging improvisation and straightforward
bop while allowing all soloists to alternate playing in
tandem and contrasting between each other. Rivers wrote the songs
on "Crystals" between 1959 and 1972. By 1974, Rivers had already played
in groups with Andrew Hill, Donald Byrd, Paul Bley, and Herbie
Hancock, among others, allowing him to develop a mature sound by the
time "Crystals", his 9th album, was recorded.
