HAL BLAINE on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9 p.m.-midnight
Listen in and hear about the life and work of this west coast studio titan
/ drummer extraordinaire who's played on more number one hits than anyone
else in history.

COMETS ON FIRE, "Field Recordings from the Sun" on the Inside Track,
Friday 9 p.m.
Comets on Fire have laid down some gnarly shreddage for their second album
of West Coast Psychedelia. This time around, they ripped it up in the
studio of Tim Green of The Fucking Champs. Ben Chasny of Six Organs of
Admittance sits in as lead guitarist, and the whole loud thing is awesome.

HELL OR HIGH WATER, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
We'll be picking up where we left off last week with traditional music of
the Georgia Sea Islands, featuring the field recordings of Alan Lomax and
others.

FURRY LEWIS, "Fourth and Beale" on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday 2-3
p.m.
>From bed and sans wooden leg, Old Furry Lewis sings the blues on this
record from 1969. A rough-around-the-edges feel plus charming
between-song banter make for a fresh 'n funny slide-guitar record. Tune
in to hear how well this man could entertain at age 80!

Timely topics with TODD & BILL on Northern Hemisphere Live, Sunday 5-7
p.m.
This Sunday NHL's Todd and Bill will host an open show with sundry topics
relating to the current events of the day. Listeners are invited to call
in and participate.

Various Artists, "LONDON IS THE PLACE FOR ME: Trinidadian Calypso in
London, 1950 - 1956" on the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
Themes of racial segregation in the UK, longing for homeland, and sexual
desire dominate this set of calypso sides taken from 78s originally
released on the Melodisc label in the '50s. It's a stellar compilation
featuring Caribbean expatriates (like Lord Kitchener, Lord Beginner, and
the Lion) who recorded with a core group of Caribbean and British jazz and
swing session players. And it's compiled by the gentlemen who assembled
one of WXYC's most popular reggae discs of 2001, "Darker Than Blue: Soul
from Jamdown 1973 - 1980," so you know it'll be good.

Also this week and every week:

Friday, 9 p.m.

Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m
