FENNESZ, O'ROURKE, REHBERG, "The Return of Fenn O'Berg" on the Inside
Track, Friday 9 p.m.
The second album from the trio of laptop-style computer experts Christian
Fennesz, Jim O'Rourke and Peter "Pita" Rehberg is absolutely
terrific. Each track is completely improvised and includes samples from
things like old romantic soundtrack LP's and synthesizers. A joyful ride,
of sorts, that is head-scratching, fun and totally awesome - all at the
same time! Wow.

HELL OR HIGH WATER, Sunday 1-2 p.m.
Host Jason will pick up where he left off last week with more vintage
tapes of Franklinton, NC gospel group The Golden Echoes culled from UNC's
Southern Folklife Collection.

HAROLD BUDD, "Lovely Thunder" on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday 2-3 p.m.
Featured is the ambient masterpiece "Lovely Thunder" by neoclassical
composer and instrumentalist Harold Budd. Released in 1986 on Brian Eno's
EG Records, this beautiful album boasts contributions from Robin Guthrie
(Cocteau Twins) and Michael Hoenig (Tangerine Dream).

TAIWANESE INDEPENDENCE on Northern Hemisphere Live, Sunday 5-7 pm.
This week we will be discussing the uproar surrounding President Chen
Shui-bian's call for a referendum on the independence of Taiwan. Issues to
be addressed include: what this means for future relations between Taipei
and Bejing, the likelihood of a military response from the PRC, and what
US policy should be in regard to this potentially volatile situation.

Various Artists, "DOPE AND GLORY: REEFER SONGS FROM THE 30s AND 40s " on
the Inside Track, Monday 9 p.m.
Germany's Trikont label has knocked themselves out by giving us two discs
worth of vintage blues and jazz tunes devoted to marijuana. This Inside
Track will expand your vocabulary of old dope jive, and you'll get to hear
timeless music from the likes of Fats Waller, Mezz Mezzrow & His
Orchestra, Cab Calloway, and many others.

Also this week and every week:
-THE INSIDE TRACK: a new release played in full Monday, Wednesday and
Friday, 9 p.m.
-ORANGE COUNTY SPECIAL: traditional and neo-traditional music of the world
Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m
-HELL OR HIGH WATER: music from UNC's Southern Folklife Collection Sunday
1-2 p.m.

from Chapel Hill's finest, as well as older records from N.C. bands of the
past, Sunday 7-8 p.m.

Sunday 8-9 p.m.
