Music in celebration of ST. PATRICK'S DAY on Hell or High Water, Sunday
1-2 p.m.
We're not sure exactly what genres or artists host Steve has in store for
you, but rest assured it will fully sate your need for Southern music that
pertains to Irish holidays.
ROTARY CONNECTION - s/t on the Classic Inside Track, Sunday 2-3pm
A relatively obscure footnote to the greater Chess Records story, the
Rotary Connection was the brainchild of Chess founder Leonard Chess' son
Marshall, who was given his own Chess subsidiary to play with in the late
sixties. The Cadet Concept imprint would release some of the blues'
trippiest albums ("This Is Howling Wolf's New Album," Muddy Waters'
"Electric Mud") as well as the first efforts of Status Quo ("Pictures of
Matchstick Men"), but it all started with the 1968 debut from the Rotary
Connection, a multiracial psychedelic soul band featuring the five-octave
range of a little-known Chess backup singer named Minnie Riperton ("Lovin'
You (Is Easy 'Cause You're Beautiful)"). Hear it Sunday at 2 on this
week's Classic Inside Track.
25 YEARS OF WXYC on Northern Hemisphere Live, Sunday 5-7 p.m.
WXYC began broadcasting on March 18, 1977. To mark the occasion of the
station's 25th anniversary, WXYC's weekly call-in show Northern Hemisphere
Live will focus on the station's history, in particular the evolution of
the station's musical format over the years. Former WXYC music directors
are expected to join us in the studio and by telephone to discuss the
popular and not-so-popular music of their respective eras and the roles
they played in bringing that music to the ears of Chapel Hill listeners.
