...AND YOU WILL KNOW US BY THE TRAIL OF DEAD on-air interview, Wednesday
between noon and 5 p.m.
The raucous Austin, TX band commonly known as Trail of Dead (not as
frightening as the name might indicate) will stop by our studios for a
live chat before their show at the Cat's Cradle Wednesday night. They
can't tell us exactly what time they'll be here, but keep your radios on
between noon and 5 p.m. for the chance to catch some of their rock'n'roll
wit and wisdom. The band's latest album, "Madonna," is out on the
Triangle's very own Merge Records.

COSMOSAMATICS: self-titled release on the Inside Track, Wednesday 9 p.m.
The second release from saxophonists Michael Marcus and Sonny Simmons as
the Cosmosamatics, backed by the freeform rhythm section of William Parker
and Jay Rosen. Some fierce blowing, challenging exchanges and contagious
energy.

Jamaica's STUDIO ONE on the Thursday Night Feature, Thursday 9
p.m.-midnight
Legendary reggae producer Clement "Coxsone" Dodd opened his Kingston
recording studio in 1962 and built it into what is arguably Jamaica's most
influential musical institution. Studio One produced hit after hit in the
'60s and '70s from reggae icons like the Ethiopians, Bob Marley, Burning
Spear, The Heptones, Sugar Minnott and Dennis Alcapone; the studio's
resident bands included the Skatalites (featuring Jackie Mittoo, Tommy
McCook and Roland Alphonso). In fact, there are very few reggae performers
of any note who didn't record for Studio One at some point. Dodd followed
and influenced reggae's transitions from ska to rock steady and then
dancehall until closing the studio in the mid-'80s. Tune in this Thursday
for a taste of Studio One's prolific output.

LEELS: self-titled release on the Inside Track, Friday 9 p.m.
Leels is a new project from Eric of Home and Chris and Trey from
Merinque. It's touted as "an instant classic of Floridian/New York pop and
prog ... a super sweet wedge of lemon and sugar in perfect balance." From
Emperor Jones Records.

ROBERT GORDON with DANNY GATTON - "The Humbler Tape" on the Classic Inside
Track, Sunday 2-3 p.m.
Guitarist Danny Gatton spent his life unsettled -- unwilling to settle on
one style of music (fluent in rockabilly, bop, gospel, soul, bluegrass and
more -- he summed up his broad vocabulary as "redneck jazz"), and
braced to succeed or fail on his own terms. His fame was limited -- the
Washington Post described him in a profile three years before his 1994
suicide as "a guitarist's guitarist famous for not being famous, a
musician nobody has heard who is better than anyone they have."

This Sunday, hear the picker Guitar Player magazine dubbed "The World's
Greatest Unknown Guitarist," sharing the stage with rockabilly singer
Robert Gordon on the blistering live bootleg passed from guitarist to awed
guitarist that gave Gatton his nickname -- "The Humbler."

Various Artists: THE VERY BEST OF BOLLYWOOD SONGS II on the Inside Track,
Monday 9 p.m.
India produces more films than any other country in the world, even the
US, and musical numbers feature prominently in most of
"Bollywood's" movies. This compilation series is one of several that
highlight Bollywood film songs. This, the second volume, draws material
from four decades of Hindi films. Highlights include Tu Kahe Agar, from
the 1949 flick "Andaz," and the more contemporary Chalo Chale Mit. Another
definitive Bollywood collection.

Also this week and every week:
-THE INSIDE TRACK: a new release played in full Monday, Wednesday and
Friday, 9 p.m.

Sunday 10 a.m.-1 p.m
