This Thursday July 5, tune in from 9pm to midnight for some of the finest
synthesizers, drum machines, analogs, and robot vocals you've heard in
ages,
as WXYC's Thursday Night Feature "SynthPop: Future-Past and Present"
explores the origins and evolution of that mighty New Wave subgenre known
as
SynthPop.

We'll start with the roots of SynthPop, playing influential artists who
were directly or indirectly the innovators of the futuristic
synthesizer-dependent style -- listen for Kraftwerk, Brian Eno, Silver
Apples, Devo, and Einstuerzende Neubauten, along with many lesser-knowns.

Most of the TNF will focus on the SynthPop genre in its early years,
covering the peak of the genre's popularity from 1978 - 1986 and featuring
SynthPop kings Depeche Mode, New Order, Gary Neuman, Thomas Dolby, the
Human
League, and many more.

Then, stay tuned to the tail end of the TNF to hear the variety of
directions that SynthPop has taken in recent years, apparent in the
"neo-SynthPop" music of artists such as Servotron, TransAm, Adult.,
Freezepop, and Stereolab.
