Amy Phillips reports: Original Slits Ari Up and Tessa Pollitt came together earlier this year to play a few shows in the UK; however, Up and Pollitt met in the studio last year to record new material. The Revenge of the Killer Slits EP will be out October 17 on SAF Records. It will contain the following songs: 01 Slits Tradition Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook and Adam & the Ants guitarist Marco Pirroni guest on "Number One Enemy", while Cook's daughter Holly, Pollitt's daughter Phoebe, Lauren Jones (daughter of the Clash's Mick Jones), and Miquita Oliver (British television presenter and daughter of Rip Rig & Panic singer Andrea Oliver) all contribute backing vocals to "Slits Tradition". "Number One Enemy" was recorded by Edwyn Collins (Orange Juice, "A Girl Like You") at his studio. Although Adrian Sherwood was previously reported as having been involved with the project, he does not appear to have contributed. (An Adrian Sherwood/Ari Up collaboration is in the works for the GSL label, however.) But goddamn, that's still some heavy-duty punk rock royalty right there. The Slits are planning a U.S. tour this fall, to coincide with the CMJ Music Marathon in New York. Check out the Slits website for footage from their UK shows, and FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, GET PSYCHED, PEOPLE!!! |
