Hello,

On Trail Work Parties, just to let you all know that the Back Country
Horsemen is a fun and diligent group in maintaining trails in New Mexico;

However, they also have periodic "fun" rides and their camping events are
great (work and play); After the work part of the day there is always time
for great trail riding. Great new trails to explore and great community
around camp-fires at night sharing conservation (mainly horse stories) and
good food.

Consider joining and if you are not into heavy log clearing (2 or 3 using a
big saw) after a big storm, you can always help out in camp, meals, watching
over site while crew is out on a mission or just acting as a drag rider or
gate opener or a cheerleader for the group.

Or, consider donating your $25 membership dues to a good cause and be on the
email list for great places (and directions) to rides. The Back Country is
famous over the US as active horse people; and is very strong politically is
"helping to save our trails" because they are truly at risk in many parts of
the US and even here NM. Debbie is a great president with volumes of
information about trails.

Happy trails,
Marie Griffith
Taos, NM

Folks,

Those of you who are involved with trail stewardship groups, please
try to set dates for work parties far enough in advance that they
can be listed in The Horsemen's Voice event listing. That usually
means by the 10th of the month before, but if your date is early in
the month, aim for the prior month. Eg, for September 1 aim to get
into the August issue, so set your date in early July.

There are many other places to list your work party. Listing is
good for developing better community relations and awareness and
recruiting new members who want to do trail work rather than simply
ride trails or learn about trails to ride.
