I'm not trying to offend here, but is this a sustainable situation?
Would we have a reasonable response time in case the site is wholly
down due to some hardware failure?

Of course I'm also a bit hesitant to offer hosting myself, as that
would introduce another single point of failure (me), although the paid
private server I run is at a hosting facility with personnel to do
repairs, though most likely I will have to trigger them for specific
failure of my box. Also the machine does not run Source Mage. The
distro should be self-hosting, right?

Perhaps I could get a virtual machine on our Blade Centers at work
(university data center) for that. I figure that for a single-purpose
web server, a VM with lots redundancy and proper backup in the
background is a sensible choice. At least I know the folks tending to
the hardware, too.

I'm not pushing to do that work, I'm fine with just offering my
private mirror for downloads and as fallback for source files. But I
really wonder if we shouldn't discuss alternatives if our server people
don't find time to work on our machines for several months now.

Alrighty then,

Thomas
