I *really* want to see this trend go viral. EVERYONE would benefit by
introducing this legislation to your localities, including local family
farms.
That means much better food security for you and your family.

Please request your local legislators to take up this torch as well.

Stay well,

Linda :-)

Blue Hill becomes third town in Maine to pass food freedom law
Wednesday, April 20, 2011 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) Within the past several months, numerous towns in Maine, and
one
in Vermont, have proposed or enacted food sovereignty laws that declare,
plainly, that the federal government has no business telling citizens what
food
products they can and cannot buy or sell locally. Representing the third town
to
successfully pass such an ordinance, Blue Hill, Maine, recently adopted a
local
food and self-governance bill that asserts the freedom of local citizens to
choose their own food.

In a near-unanimous vote, Blue Hill residents successfully voted to pass the
food freedom ordinance on April 2. Besides declaring sovereignty from
government
intrusion on local food policy, the bill exempts all direct sales of food
from
having to comply with state and federal license and inspection requirement.
In
other words, local residents who grow and sell produce, for instance, will
not
be subjected to the tedious and expensive bureaucratic red tape that
rightfully
applies to factory farm operations.

"[It] is a huge milestone in the struggle to protect the rights, not only of
farmers to sell their products, but also of all citizens to eat the food of
their choice," John Gandy, a local resident of Blue Hill and Master for the
Halcyon Grange, is quoted as saying in the Activist Post. "It is time
citizens
start defending our rights against big government and big business."

In early March, two other towns in Maine, Sedgwick and Penobscot, both passed
their own food sovereignty laws. And the town of Barre, Vt., will vote on its
own food freedom resolution sometime in May
(http://www.naturalnews.com/031833_f...).

Based on the Tenth Amendment to the US Constitution, the federal government
has
absolutely no authority to interfere with state and local food affairs. The
Amendment specifically prohibits the federal government from exerting any
power
not specifically granted to it by the Constitution, and a group called the
Tenth
Amendment Center is working hard to help states break free from the chains of
unlawful federal intrusion (http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/).

"There is one, and only one, solution, and we have almost no time to try
it. We
must turn all our resources to repairing the natural world, and train all our
young people to help. They want to.
We need to give them this last chance to create forests, soils, clean waters,
clean energies, secure communities, stable regions, and to know how to do it
from
hands-on experience"
"...the greatest change we need to make is from consumption to production,
even
if on a small scale, in our own gardens. If only 10% of us do this, there is
enough for everyone.
Hence the futility of revolutionaries who have no gardens, who depend on the
very system they attack, and who produce words and bullets, not food and
shelter."

Workshop: An Introduction to Training and Driving Oxen

When: Saturday, May 14th , 10 AM to 5 PM
Where: Living Energy Farm, Louisa VA (see below for directions)
Registration Contact: Sara Tansey, *sara.m.tansey@gmail.com* , *843-694-8896
*
Cost: $50, includes lunch. Checks made payable to Living Energy Farm.

Internationally, no animal is used for draft as commonly as the ox.
Sometimes referred to as the “poor man's horse,” oxen are cheaper and more
easily obtained than horses, and much cheaper to feed. While not as fast as
horses, they are stronger and have more endurance, and a more level
disposition.

This workshop is intended as an introduction to oxen for those with little
or no experience with cattle. We will begin by discussing the historical and
modern significance of the ox as a working animal. We will cover the pros
and cons of different breeds, and go over the basics of selecting calves,
early halter and yoke training, feeding, housing and care. We will then
learn the basic commands used to drive oxen and discuss techniques used to
teach each of these commands. Participants will have a chance to practice
these commands by driving one of our oxen teams. We will demonstrate both a
mature team plowing a field, and a younger team pulling a cart.

This workshop will be taught by Luke Conner. Luke has worked with oxen since
he was five years old, and has spent the past four years training, working,
and showing his team, Calvin and Hobbes. Workshop assistants Jon and Debbie
of Living Energy Farm have been training their team, Lojki and Fiddle, for
the past eight months.
