Keith Johnson (Permaculture Activist magazine) and I are working on finding a new home in an endowed, institutional library in the South East/Central/West U.S.A. for a friend's (ecologist, market farmer and fellow permaculture list member) world class library of periodicals, pamphlets and books on the topic of nitrogen fixing trees. Ideally this lifetime collection of primary publications should go to a botany, horticulture, ecology or agricultural library in an educational institution in one of the states with a southern climate, from California to Florida. We have been thinking about libraries at: The Department of Ecology, University of Georgia at Athens, the University of Florida at Gainsville (Howard Odum taught at both of these schools) and the D.H. Hill Library at N.C. State University at Raleigh, NC (which has an ongoing book preservation program). Would the NAL or NAL-AFSIC be interested in a donation of this material?

I think that it represents about 100 pounds of materials. Packaging and shipping costs would need to be covered by the recipient. It is conceivable that the collection could be divided amongst several libraries.

We would welcome any suggestions.
