- Subject: [permaculture] solar dehydrators

Hello Everyone,
I am interested in building a homesteading-scale solar food dehydrator. I
read on the web a 1980 article from Mother Earth News about a 'solar survival
dehydrator' built from a 55 gallon drum and wood. The article discussed how
the designers had figured out how to get airflows such that the food inside
would stay at a nearly constant 115-120 degrees regardless of the outside
temperature. The materials to build it were simple and inexpensive to
obtain. The plans were available from a Canadian address.
Does anyone know much about this dehydrator? Anyone built one? Where can I
get the plans? Are there better ones that have been designed and available?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Marjory
