I think Earthaven has the potential to help fill the void left by the BMC luminaries. Warren Wilson College, just down the road, is doing exceptional work with a strong ecological curriculum. We're doing increasingly more with them and even beginning to offer classes at Earthaven for which students can earn credit. We've had a few hundred students here over the last few years helping with a variety of projects.

Thanks Keith, that is just fantastic. I was born and raised in Chapel Hill
and in late fifties and early sixties began to hear a little about BMC. There
was
a strong liberal arts and community in ChH with many artists and poets
dividing
their time between NYC and ChH and a few other places. Some of those artists
were
part of the New York School that developed the abstract expressionism
movement and
many of the most famous of those were part of the BMC community and faculty.
My Mother used to vacation in Black Mountain with her family during summers
when
she was a child. BM was famous in NC as a summer resort.
