USGS Topos from the USGS have other advantages besides
no batteries -- they do not contain deliberate copyright canaries
(errors)like commercially published maps and you can write on them if you
have to with a pencil, unlike your PDA.
Paper maps are not subject to interference from PCS phones, aircraft or
police radar and motion sensors either.
And the batteries never wear out.
