Dorene,

Ditto the suggestion of the nonGMOSourcebook.

We do use soybeans as a short-term summer cover crop. Because we run a tofu-making business, we use cull seed from that enterprise, rather than buy forage varieties. Soybeans, like buckwheat, have no frost tolerance. We reckon on growing them at least 6 or 7 weeks before turning under, but longer would be better, maybe 10 or 11 weeks? Obviously you don't normally want them to set seed, but in your case that might be acceptable for a full season use. The frost will deal with seedlings that are growing in the fall.
