I've also got a Kuhn Power Harrow, works
pretty well and I would second what Dave said for the most part. I have
pretty heavy clay so I run a chisel plow before I run it though. I find it
doesn't go very deep unless I do that but then neither does a rototiller.
It also makes a more level bed than a rototiller. It breaks up most of the
stuff but some of the plants do stay intact enough to re root if you leave
them. I run my flail mover over the area first to avoid some of the issues
Dave mentioned. Also its easier to clean out than a rototiller as the blades are
vertical and open on the bottom
There are trash rakes but I've not used
them, They would probably be a good thing to use in conjunction with a
power harrow in certain cases. If I find a used one I'll probably
pick it up if I have enough cash on hand at the time.
>I got a 4' power harrow made by
Kuhn.....it's softer on the soil and goes deep. I've been using it for 2
>>nch or so deep for weeding or 10 or 11 inches for primary tillage. The
only trouble I have is that it leaves >what ever I'm harrowing in tact and on
the surface, so if I'm trying to kill an old bed of Kale all the stems >and
woody matter stays on the surface and it's hard to get a seeder through. A power
harrow is as?p>ricey?as a small spader but much more rugged and useful in
my?opinion...
>speaking of that does anyone?know?of a bed "cleaner"? Something that would pick up the trash and leave >the soil? I'm sorta envisioning a?vibrating?table that would attach to a 3 point....I may be dreaming, I also >want a solar?powered?drone to fly over my chicken fields and keep the?hawks?at bay.... >Have Fun >Dave >z6a ____________________________________________________________ |
