I'm not sure about low cost but I use 3 or 4 strands of 1/2 inch tape around 2.5 acres and I haven't lost anything. the big cost is the charger and the fiberglass rods to hold the tape. Tape and charger I get from Premier and the posts from Ken-cove. There are a couple of trick to this....1 try and make the one of the strands the height of the average deer in your area. Bate the fence with aluminum foil with peanut butter in it. The deer smell the pbutter and try to taste it and BAM. Even though my fence is only 6 feet once they get a shock they don't want to have anything to do with the fence. The other thing is know the deer's path and not force them to jump. So my deer ran right across the middle of my proposed garden, when I put up the fence I left 50 or so feet of open space at either end so the deer could freely walk around me. If I had to guess I'd say I have 5-6 hundred dollars in the fence. I will say that premiers solar chargers are worth every cent I paid....

good luck

Low cost deer fencing - is there such a thing?  I'm looking for fencing to use on some rented ground next season to enclose two small fields one is ~ 2 acres and the second about 3.  I'll need either a solar charger or to use a 12V battery to supply power as power is not available.  I'm curious as to what has worked in the past and the approximate cost for the fence.  I've tried growing on this field in the past and have had severe damage to both my sweet corn and squash.  About the only things the deer have left alone in the past were garlic, cabbage and potatoes.

Any suggestions or words of wisdom?

Andy
