Although I've never used an oxy-propane torch, I understand that is doesn't have as hot a flame as oxy-acetylene. I can't speak to the practical implications of that, but I would expect that one could heat or cut more quickly with acetylene.

If you'll only be cutting and heating with the torch Oxy-propane is a good choice. If you plan to do some welding also, oxy-acetylene is a better choice.
