I really like and highly recommend Gilmour model 9400.

I think it’s referred to as “Four Program Electronic Timer” It is battery operated ( uses 4 ‘AA’), (display flashes ‘low battery when they are running out”), but usually last a season.  It has hose connections.  Can be programmed with up to 4 cycles per day, but the part I love the  most is that with the simple key pad you can turn it to manual and set a time to run by pushing either the up arrow or down arrow.  The display flashes and prompt you, such as set hours, or set minutes, and once on, gives you a countdown on time remaining.  If you set it longer than you need, just tap ‘OK” then ‘OFF” and it shuts down. When I’m topping off a stock tank I may only set it for 4 minutes, but during the summer it’s easy to set for 8 hours. You could set it for as little as 1 minute, but my brain is not coming up with maximum time (a part of me wants to say 9 hours and 59 minutes, but don’t hold me to that).

I connect ours either direct to a yard hydrant, or sometimes to a ‘Y’ connected to the hydrant.

We have used these timers for years.  Don’t leave them out during freezing weather or they will break.  And if you jerk really hard on the hose to gain that extra couple of inches, they can break apart.  But they are very rugged and can last for years.

We purchase ours at Deerfield Supplies ~ 2825 Stringtown Rd., Elkton, KY 42220

Phone 270/265-2425

They accept credit card and ship daily.

I paid $47.55 for the one I bought this past spring.

Can anyone recommend good timers for drip irrigation? I've been using various manual wind-up two hour timers, in order to keep it simple and avoid batteries. But we've broken so many this year, that I need to find something better. I don't mind turning the systems on by hand, but I do appreciate it if they turn themselves off. I don't need really fancy expensive timers. I do need reliable and durable!

I'm interested in recommendations of manual ones that have worked for you, or the more basic battery operated models. I'm also interested in which ones people have tried and found not good.
