We have a mechanical transplanter that requires the plants to have bare roots so we do not use flats for those plants that will be transplanted with the mechanical transplanter which includes broccoli. We sow seeds in rows about 2-3 per inch with 6 inches between rows and when they are 4-6 inches high we transplant them. That is where they are now.
I have never dealt with shipping transplants so I have no idea how they ought to be packed, nor have I ever sold transplants so I am not sure what the price should be. I guess it would depend on volume. We have at least 1000 extra broccoli plants as well as 1-200 extra kohlrabi and fennel.

I am not completely opposed to shipping the transplants but I am hesitant because of  my lack of experience in it and because we are so busy right now it may not be worth the effort.

If some one wants to pick some up I would be more than happy to look into a reasonable price.

I've transplanted spring fennel the past half dozen years with good results everytime.  I do remember reading on the seed pack that it wasn't advised.

This spring I planted out mistreated transplants 3 weeks later than usual and they still turned out really great with no early bolting and nice bulbs.  I've been growing the Orion f1 from JSS.

I've read it was EXTREMELY temperamental in terms of disturbing the roots.  Our direct sown crop did well this spring/early summer but its been so blasted hot up here I was not even going to try to direct seed.

So I am trying trying transplanting fennel.  SO far so good.  Its on week two with constant watering to keep things cool and its in a shade spot that keeps it cool for the later half of the day.

ANy experience to compare?
