I need to have a very basic compost pile for my farm to compost veggie scrap waste, but the problem is I have these horribly invasive rhizomes of grass (canary reed, quack, etc.) that invade the bottom of the pile as it sits there, and then makes the finished compost unusable. I was planning on doing a windrow type pile & turning it with my bucket loader, layering spoiled hay in between vegetable layers.
Anyone have a creative idea for how to block out the grass from coming up through the pile? I do not own the land, just lease it-- so a concrete pad is out of the question for now. Other ideas?
Thanks!
