No, saying I will forego Big Beef because the hoophouse will be full of
heirlooms and I would put just determinates outside. It has done fairly well
for us inside.

Hi Beth,
We grew both Mountain Fresh and Celebrity last year outside..didn't like
them at all as far as flavor and neither had very good disease resistance
even though they supposedly do. I have also been searching for some good
tasting determinate and have settled on growing Bush Goliath. We've grown
this one in the past, it grows about 3-4 ft tall with really thick stems
that need very little support. The fruit are large 10oz or so and taste
very good with average yields. We've gotten the seed from RHShumway. Would
love to hear what other determinate varieties others are growing.

We also erected a hoop house this past fall to grow tomatoes and are
planning on growing our Big Beef and other heirlooms in there. Are you
giving up on Big Beef because it is not marketed as a greenhouse tomato?
The guy we bought our hoop house from is also a farmer and he grows Big Beef
in his without issue. He did grow a greenhouse variety called Geronimo
(Johnny's) that he liked a lot and plans to grow again this year. There is
another farm up the street from us that grows all of their heirloom toms in
hoop houses. So I guess I'm saying don't give up on growing Big Beef if you
think you can't grow them in a hoop house.

SV
