What is your application rate and how do you apply.

I find that applying solubor only to the beds that need it is the easiest way
to use boron. I tried to foliar spray boron on tomatoes and burned the
foliage. Too much boron can be more harmful than too little so I always apply
less then needed to be on the safe side. Your idea of broadcasting borax
should work just be careful not to over lap too much. When I buy dry
fertilizer I usually get 1000 pounds at a time and have the guy at the
fertilizer mixing plant add a little extra boron and use it only on crops
that need it.
I don't think you should have a problem with solubor leaching, just apply
enough for one season and let the crop use it up... Bob.

Subject: [Market-farming] Boron application

Hi,   I was wondering if there are people here with experience with Boron
fertilizers?  My soil tests 'very low' on boron and I have deficiency
symptoms in broccoli, cauliflower, and celery.  I grow 12 acres organic veg
(I have a CSA, lots of different crops all over the fields) on sandy loam
soils with about 3%OM.   I was thinking I would broadcast borax (15%B) at
8lb. to the acre (1lb. boron) and disk it in. Additionally, for sensitive
crops like broc, I plan to spray solubor at .2 lb/ac B a couple weeks after
transplanting.  I was going to cut the borax 50/50 with gypsum which would up
my application rate to 16 lb/acre and walk it on with a cyclone seeder in 2
directions.  I was hoping the borax would give me a seasons worth of borax
vs. spraying the total field surface with solubor (I read the B in Solubor is
very soluble and quickly leached).   Any commen ts or ideas?   Thanks,
Paul
