In the spring, someone (Marie, was it you?)
asked if lilies other than day lilies are edible. I've
just been reading "Grow Your Own Chinese
Vegetables" by Geri Harrington. She says:
"The common day lily (Hemerocallis fulva) and
the tiger lily (Lilium tigrinum) are the lilies most
commonly found.......In addition the Chinese use
many other lilies, among them H> minor, Funkia
ovata (Japanese day lily), and H. aurantiaca,
which is fragrant. They are prepared in much the
same way and used interchangeably in Oriental
dishes."
I found this a very interesting book, with
lots of info I hadn't found elsewhere. It was
published in 1978, so might be hard to find. it
has inspired me to want to try growing
asparagus peas and sesame next year! Anyone
tried either of those?
