Heavy breeds don't need it...period. Lighter breeds can sometimes go two
years...once they think they can't fly, takes awhile for them to realize
they can when the wing feathers grow back in. Its the primary feathers that
get cut, usually only 5-6, clip back to the row of secondary feathers. But
before going to all that work, check to see if they're flying out--only clip
if they are, and then only do the ones that are. You nab the escape artists
before the others realize they can do the same and you save yourself alot of
work.
