The system that sounded great to me was presented at the Small Farm Today annual conference and trade show a few years ago by Katie T(???) from England. She used electric fence like Electronet, to keep chickens in and predators out of the pasture. Housing, I believe, was permanent, but the range was large. She said trees in the pasture gave the chickens a save place to hide if hawks were overhead. I wondered what kept the chickens from flying over the fence.
As for clipping wings, you don't actually clip the wings, just the wing tip feathers. I was told to clip them on one wing only, then the flight attempts were off balance.
