Hey Folks,

I know there's been an awful lot af alerts coming though, just bear with
us - this is after all the Farm Bill that will determine our food and
agriculture policy for the next 5-10 years. Believe it or not, calls to
our elected officials do get their attention.
We need to let the voices of the family farmers be heard, because you do
know that the big
corporate ones are out there trying to push things their way.

Stay updated, make a few calls, speak up, our grassroots efforts do make
a difference!

The Conservation Security Act addressed in this alert would provide
financial incentives for farmers to use good stewardship practices on
actively farmed land. It would finally take some money away from the
subsidizing of agri-business and commodity growers and make it available
to those who practice environmentally sound agriculture. A great
program for the family farms of this country.

NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE
www.SustainableAgriculture.net

Even if you've made calls over the last few days, we need you to call
your Senators again TODAY! Vote in the Senate Ag Committee will come
very
soon!

Tell your Senators to Support the Conservation Security Act -- and to say
"NO" to factory farm waste subsidies.

The Senate Agriculture Committee is in the process of voting on the farm
bill that will then be introduced on the Senate floor. The National
Campaign has endorsed the Conservation Security Act as proposed by
Senator Harkin, and supports strengthening many existing USDA
conservation programs. The National Campaign's recommendations for the
conservation title of the next farm bill are at the end of this alert.

Please tell your Senators to:
1) Support the complete Conservation Security Act program as proposed in
the Harkin conservation title of S1628. Tell them this new conservation
program will work for all of America's working farm and ranch lands and
is not regionally biased!

2) In the Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), maintain the
prohibition against large confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs)
using EQIP funds to build animal waste structures and vote against any
amendments to remove the prohibition or increase the EQIP payment
limitation.

3) Support full funding for the other conservation programs, as proposed
by Senator Harkin.

PLEASE CALL TODAY! Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121. Ask
for your Senator by name and they will connect you. Ask to speak with the
legislative aide who handles agriculture. If you get voice mail, leave a
short message.

If possible, please take a minute to send us an e-mail at
action AT sustainableagriculture.net to let us know what kind of response
you received.

Thank you!
