I saw a piece on TV several years ago about some people "up north" ( I
was in Fl at the time) that grew figs. What they did was bend the
small fig tree down ever so carefully every fall and wrap it in burlap
or something like that. Then they dug a trench an buried the tree.
They uncovered in the spring, filling in the trench so it can be used
every year.

Just throwing that out there. I don't like figs that much :>)
