O.K., I always keep all the "stuff" that comes with the plants I buy. I
looked it up and the fig trees came from Territorial Seed Company. They are
Fig Negronne (Ficus carica). They get 8-10' tall but do nicely if pruned to
a smaller size. USDA Zone 7. Hardy to between 0°F-5°F but "we recommend
protecting the plant if temperatures drop between 15°F-20°F for an extended
period of time."

And all ficus do great if they are in pots. Root bound isn't a bad thing
with ficus!

Great additional info Lynda. Have printed it out and will see if that tree
is available in our area. Even with all our cold weather this winter we have
not gotten below zero....close at 4 degrees above.
The cold frames seem do able too.

DH built a portable greenhouse type of thing. It is 4 hinged panels that
fold up and get stuck in the carport during the summer. I stick a
Freecycle
window on top. He also did one of them from old wood framed windows and
those go together using door hinges when they are in use and come
completely
apart when they aren't. They'd be way too heavy to move otherwise.
