Sorry guys, we just moved, and don't have internet access at home yet.
Cathy, the lap instument, playable by little old ladies, and any one else for
that matter,?you are most likely referring to is an auto-harp.?? Not to
disagree with anyone else (the dulcimer is easy to learn to play), but the
auto-harp is probably the easiest instrument in the world to play out of the
box. However, it is strictly for accompaniment. You push a button (labelled
with the chords) and strum. Waa-laa, you have beautiful chordal music. Push
another button, strum, and the chord changes. All you have to know is when to
change chords, and if you have been singing as long as you have, you will
probably be able to hear when the chord should change.
There are easy tutorials available
Ray

Subject: [Homestead] a musical question
I love to sing. One of my earliest memories is at 4 years old looking out
of the window from my bunk in the trailer and singing myself to sleep. I
sang with and to my children until they would sometimes ask me (politely,
they're nice children) to please stop. But I've never learned to play an
instrument. My ability to read music is scanty--the equivalent of
hunt-and-peck typing.
I'd like to strum a little accompaniment, something very basic, just to play
for myself. Does anyone remember those lap-sized stringed instruments
little old lady Sunday School teachers used to play? Does anyone play a
very simple instrument?
Thanks
Cathy
