Thought I'd take a break and do some mowing...
picked up some sticks first, and some tools,,,got distracted and puttered
around the barn some, and then walked over to the push mower, which was in
the center of the barn area, and realized it was kinda dusty/spiderwebby, so
I carefully grabbed the handle and pulled the mower towards me.  I don't like
spiders AT ALL.  Because I have good Viking genes, I am rather tall and
pushed downward on the handle as I moved it-otherwise, well, things could
have been different.  Lo and behold, there was a rattlesnake coiled up ready
to strike underneath it.  It was only a 3 footer, (timber rattler), but he
scared me all the way to Valhalla and back!  I ran back to the house and got
the pistol, which jammed on the first shot(I missed due to shaky hands..bad
thing with a snake), but luckily the chickens were roaming around and the
snake was afraid to move.  I ran back to the house and got the .22 rifle,
loaded it with rat shot and regular shot alternating, and
went back out to finish the job.  It is amazing what rat shot can do to a
snake.  Throughout the whole incident, he never rattled.  Scary.  I probably
walked by within striking distance three times-maybe 4, can't remember.
Where are all those king snakes that I had mercy upon when you need them??
I'm kinda disappointed in my pistol jamming...I suppose it needs
cleaning....hasn't been used much in the last year.

No doubt I would enjoy an online subscription, but I spend
so much time in front of my computer working each day that
I feel I am joined to it like a Siamese twin at the
forehead. Although I support the idea of a paperless
society, in reality I am a paper packrat and my idea of
pleasure is curling up on the couch (or better yet the
creek Skychair in a more temperate season) to read a
magazine. I've tried it with my laptop, but it just emits
too much heat and outdoors there's too much glare.

Has anyone on the list serve gone to online subscriptions,
and if so, do you like reading that way?
