Fire suppression is the strongest reason to oversize water pipe, especially in the country, where the homeowner is largely the first and only firefighter. That's one reason why I am putting in two more hydrants near the house. Front, back and both sides covered. The size of the hose and nozzle will then be the primary limitation. Friends Ron & Sandra Bellinger were for years volunteers with their fire department. I have sent them an e-mail asking for recommendations.
