We have a Jersey. They do forage well, but you will not be able to keep up
much milk production on forage alone the way goats can. For that they need
grass or hay.
Around here a Jersey that the commercial Jersey dairies reject but which is
fine homestead use (three gallons a day and she hasn't been freshened in four
years) goes for about $600. Registered and up to commercial production
standards will be a lot more. </HTML>
