fodder for a book he is writing.

I believe that was Bill McKibbens. I am currently reading his book "Deep Economy" in which he makes reference to a year of eating locally. He lives in Vermont which can make that difficult in winter but not much over a hundred years ago we all ate locally.

As Peak Oil hits we may all have to eat more locally. Currently you food travels on average over 1200 miles and the current US diet assumes that it is always summer somewhere.

One of my reads this morning mused about the fact that oranges were once a treat found in upper Midwest Christmas stockings. Changing our mindset is perhaps the biggest challenge to eating locally-grown foods.
