I read a column recently that defined it as an age of consumerism and greed.

Aside from that I see no way it could be lib. vs. cons.

I guess Rove blew up recently when Sheryl Crow asked him about Global Warming.

We have tree cores, particularly in my region, or old region, where we have trees themselves that are 2-3,000 years old plus the ones laying in the bottom of the Trinadad Harbor that were covered by the tsunami in 1620 that have had cores done.

And, as much as it pains them, we do have fairly reliable verbal history that, in most cases, comes pretty darned close to accurate right down to the day in some cases (the above mentioned tsunami is one instance).

We have geology which reads the upheavals and what have you. We don't need human written history to "read" the history of the earth.

What data? If we had some good records since the last ice age we
might have a handle on what's happening. I just read something on the
grape growing in Britain worrying the French, that was before the
Little Ice Age ( Little Ice Age lasted from roughly the fourteenth
through the nineteenth centuries).

Lynda talked of 150 years of records and the ice ended 8k-10k years
or so back. That's not a lot of data.
We just don't know enough yet.
I'm really tired of saying "we just don't know enough yet"....
