Yes it can, in fact that is the best way. Thick resin heats as it cures and can crack or craze. The problem is that you do not know what kind of resin was used. Some types will not let new coats adhere without a surface preperation.

Fiberglass resin could be applied to them.
You have to mix it up -- hardener into the resin.
Similar to putting a varnish on them, husband says.
He prefers to have no fiberglass handles.
I wonder if the resin could be applied thinly.
