What is "periergazomai" (busybodies)?[snip]
My idea is that "busybody" is essentially a self-proclaimed[snip]
minister. One who has claimed to be a full-time "pastor" and
deserves to be paid by the church. And this at a time when the
Apostolic authority (Paul) has commanded them to have lay elders only
(supposition, on my part).
Interesting suggestion; I don't have BAGD or LSJ handy and can't offer anything of value on the word offhand, but the lay elders proscription would appear to run afoul of Gal 6:6. That doesn't mean 2 Thess doesn't call for withholding support from particular teachers whom Paul wishes to disqualify.
