Barrett (1991) has a section on manuscript evidence in which
he suggests that 16.25 ff are not original. The reasons are
plausible ranging from Marcion's 'objection' to chapters 15
and 16 to the possibility that chapter 16 was directed to
another community, and to manuscript evidence of varying
placements of the doxologies.
But the opening of the epistle begins as 16.26 ends with "to
bring about the obedience of faith". This seems to argue for
a closure to the opening statement and to be in agreement
with the mind of Paul rather than a secondary copyist.
any other thoughts?
thanks
