Thursday January 14
=957:30P Southern Routes (american classic/blues)

=95 10P Dark Water Rising (alt/indie/rock)
The band name, Dark Water Rising, originates from the home of its
members. Robeson County, known for its rich Lumbee culture, thrives
from the nourishment of swamplands and rich, dark water of the Lumber
River. The dark watered swamps are legendary for providing hide outs
and escape routes for Lumbee outlaws during the Civil War.

Lead singer, Charly Lowry has endured the music world since she began
singing at the tender age of 4. Over the years she attained local
success winning various beauty pageants, talent shows, and showcases.
Thereafter she had the opportunity to perform on the wildly popular
show American Idol. Charly qualified as a semi-finalist among the last
32 competitors amongst millions of potential contestants in the fall
of 2004.

In the summer of 2006, Charly and college friend/producer, Aaron
Locklear created a small independent label, GreenSky Records. Lowry
was able to gain local and regional success with the release if her
first EP entitled, "BrownSkin". After touring with her EP, Charly
quickly realized she needed the full expression of a live band to
release the sound from within.

Now at the age of 25, Lowry and Locklear have carefully pieced
together Dark Water Rising to express a sound and free spirit that
embraces several genres of music including soul, blues, country, hip
hop, gospel, and rock. "Our music has never fit into any one category
alone. We don't quite fit the mold of most other bands along the East
Coast," explains Locklear. Reminiscent of 70's and 80's bands such as
Fleetwood Mac and Heart, Dark Water Rising too stands behind a
talented female lead singer.

After a stint on the road and burst of song creativity in 2008, Dark
Water Rising has finally hit the studio to record their debut album.
The first single released "Same Old Thing" expresses the emotional
exhaustion of consistently losing a loved one to work, military
leaves, etc. week in and week out. The song has a rich blend of
acoustic/electric guitars; a foot stomping beat muscled by a deep bass
line, and is topped off with soulful vocals.

Lyrically Dark Water Rising explores all themes of life, whether it is
love, heartbreak, sacrifice, celebration, despair, or pain; all the
while expressing their sentiment on the recognition of the Lumbee
People. Dark Water Rising is a sincere group, not a prepackaged act,
which writes and composes directly from the soul. GreenSky Records
invites everyone to join the movement of the Dark Water Rising.

=95 8P Paul Edelman (folk/soul/country)
Almost born on the airplane from Columbus, Ohio, where his family
lived, to Philadelphia, because his mom, a native of Philly, only
trusted one doctor. Then the infant Edelman was flown right back to
Columbus. "I was a very serious kid, and I think that's why. That's a
lot of stress for a baby." His best friend in Columbus was a weeping
willow tree. From there Paul's family moved to the north shore of Long
Island, one of the natural habitats to the privileged dirtbag." There
was a lot of money in that town, we stood out like sore thumbs." His
family was always musical. Paul's uncle narrowly avoided success when
he refused to sell one of his songs to Joe Cocker." Everyone in the
family had talent, my mom had a beautiful voice."
Paul spent a year at Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh before settling
into Philly. Paul spent years hosting open mics all through town,
meeting folks and drawing influence from his peers. " My strongest
asset is the ability to surround myself with people that are better
than me." Eventually, Paul began connecting with some serious players
with real ambition and talent. Paul found himself being a sought after
player in town. "One of my first bandmates insists that I invented the
term Grunge as a musical genre." He learned how to give other
songwriters what their songs needed, and in so doing, was learning how
to craft his own music with unique vision.
Paul was a Boxcar, a Butcher Holler Boy and lead guitar for Naked
Omaha, three of the hottest tickets in town, simultaneously. It was no
surprise then when Paul broke out on his own with the Jangling
Sparrows, he was selling out the World Cafe and sharing bills with
James McMurtry, Robert Earl Keen and Langhorn Slim.
Since relocating to the Blue Ridge Mountains The Jangling Sparrow's
heavy hitting songwriting has already been met with an outstanding
reception at some of the most respected venues in the area and radio
in the region. Tough and tender, from a holler to a whisper. from
timeless, original, Soul, Folk and Country to ferocious twang rock.

Paul has also shared stages with:
The Drive By Truckers, Neko Case, Scott Miller, Big Sandy and his
Flyrite Boys, Slim Cessna, Marah, The Bottlerockets, The Sadies, and
if you include stage crashing, Sarah Mclaughlin, Chrissie Hind, Cheryl
Crow and the Dixie Chicks.

"If you=92re a fan of solid alt-country music, you don=92t want to miss
Paul Edelman=92s performance. Edelman has a sound that calls to mind
some of the best of the genre, but what really sets him apart is his
songwriting." Carla Nelson-The Corner News, Auburn, AL

"Edelman makes short work of simple but effective lyrics, driving
percussion, searing guitars and hooky melodies....Hints of Springsteen
and Mellencamp are balanced with Edelman=92s original sound; an
imperfect but comfortable voice and addictive narrative songs" Alli
Marshal-Mountain Xpress

=95 10P Mary Rockers Johnson (americana)
=93A voice built for singing of lingering touches (check out her
gorgeous Two Step) and songwriting skills built for the subtle but
lasting detail.=94- Independent Weekly "The musical backing serves as
flickering streetlights, directing you to the voice and words of one
Mary Johnson Rockers down below. And that=92s where the brightest lamp
should shine.=94 -Rick Cornell in review of No Place for Birds to Rest
(Independent Weekly)

=95 8P Tim Stambaugh (bluegrass/roots)
Tim is an established musician living in Carrboro, North Carolina.
He has been a fixture on the North Carolina bluegrass scene for nearly
two decades. His experience and dedication to his craft allows him to
assemble the perfect show for any occasion or environment.
Tim learned to play the banjo and guitar while growing up in the
blue ridge mountains near Asheville, NC. He relocated to Chapel Hill
in the late eighties to play banjo with Sugar Hill recording artists
The Shady Grove Band. In the early nineties, Tim went solo, assembling
a rotating cast of crack bluegrass instrumentalists to complement his
vocal stylings.
The Tim Stambaugh Band has released several full length recordings
including Russian Blue (1992), Driftwood (1997) and Half a Heart
(2004). Tim has toured the world with his music several times
including a stint playing and recording with the German bluegrass band
Catch-a-Touch and extended tours in Taiwan and Eastern Europe with the
Tim Stambaugh Band.
=93When Tim Stambaugh plays music, he is giving something back. His
music embodies real sentiments from the common man=92s perspective.=94 -
New York Times Magazine
"Tim's Stambaughs' first concert on CoMMA's BackPorch amphitheatre
series seals the deal that he will be back by popular demand. Tim's
range of style and quality of performance endeared him to our audience
as a special gifted artist who truly gives it all in his music." -Bill
Wilson, Director CoMMA Ampitheatre

=95 10P West Trinity (blues/rock) - CD Release Party
West Trinity plays the kind of raw bluesy rock that spans from the
Piedmont to Picadilly Square. Free from synthesizers, samplers and
drum machines, the music of West Trinity is centered around barbaric
tribal drumbeats and biting guitar, with soaring vocals and thoughtful
composition. This show marks the release of West Trinity=92s first CD,
=93Illuminatus=94, on Ferocidi Records.

Grayson Currin, from the The Independent writes, =93West Trinity (is) a
new Durham four-piece that quotes classical music within its vaguely
spectral blues-rock anthems. A little like light Deep Purple Cream,
West Trinity builds electric washes beneath Therese Honeycutt's
incensed voice.=94

Come on out for what promises to be a great party and show!

Sunday January 17
=95 4:30P BSC Kids! It's FUN and it's FREE! (tip jar passed)
Big Bang Boom (band)
Big Bang Boom is a power pop trio that writes and performs parent-
friendly children=92s music. The live show is high-energy, and gets the
crowd involved. From getting the kids on stage for the =93Spongebob
Chorus=94 to the parents vs. kids hokey pokey challenge =96 there is no
sitting down!
What happens when professional musicians become parents? They play
and write children's music. This is the path taken by Big Bang Boom, a
children's music group from Greensboro. After 20 years touring clubs
and playing parties, Chuck Folds (younger brother of piano rocker Ben
Folds) and Steve Williard decided to expand their horizons and play
for kids. Together with drummer Eddie Walker they have become the
parent friendly kid's rock band alternative.
Big Bang Boom is designed to give parents something else to listen
to besides Disney music and the Wiggles. There is some good quality
children's music being recorded these days. You can catch it on any
kid-friendly TV station, and now you can hear it live too.
Big Bang Boom plays some children's favorites as well as their own
original songs for kids.
