PUBLIC FORUM: SELLING THE UNIVERSITY -- WEDNESDAY, APRIL 20

How does funding from private interests affect academic freedom and the
responsibility of universities to pursue teaching, research and service in the public interest? As state support declines, how will increased reliance on funding from non-state sources influence the character of North Carolina’s public universities.

This Wednesday a panel of well known nation and local journalists and professors will lead a public forum on the topic, “Selling the University: Funding, Academic Freedom, and Public Responsibility.” 7 - 9 PM at 111 Carroll Hall on the UNC-CH campus. POLITICAL CARTOONIST TOM TOMORROW at UNC -- THURSDAY, APRIL 21 at 7:30pm

This week Internationalist Books is co-sponsoring “Tomorrow’s News Tonight: An Evening of Art and Politics with Award Winning Cartoonist Tom Tomorrow,” at the UNC Hanes Arts Center Auditorium. Tom Tomorrow, creator of the political cartoon strip “This Modern World,” is also the author of several books and which will be available for purchase at the event.

EARTH ACTION FEST – SUNDAY, APRIL 24, 2pm – 6pm

Internationalist Books will be tabling at the Earth Action Fair at Lincoln Center - stop by and see us! Come to the Lincoln Center at 750 South Merritt Mill Road, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, for bike inspections, hybrid cars, food, booths, and fun! Activities, speakers, and bands. CARRBORO BOOK FAIR - SATURDAY MAY 7 at THE ARTSCENTER

Internationalist Books is very proud to present the first annual Carrboro Book Fair, to be held from 10 AM to 5 PM on Saturday, May 7 at the Artscenter, located at 300 East Main St. in Carrboro, North Carolina. Participating book and zine publishers, writers and friends from across the country will converge on Carrboro for a day of reading, information exchange, community strengthening and of course, the buying, selling and trading of books.

Thirty-odd local and national organizations will be tabling with books and magazines for sale, including Daylight Magazine, Small Beer Press (MA), Garrett County Press (NOLA), Ivory Bell Books, John F. Blair Books, Ms. Film Festival, Crimethinc, Parcell Press (VA), Ugly Duckling Presse (NYC), The Drama (VA), Two Cranes Press, Winged Willow Press, Longleaf Books, Carolina Wren Press, AK Press (CA) and others.

Events during the day will include a screening of "Wizard People, Dear Readers" and other films, presentations from Daylight Magazine and Crimethinc, a hands-on zine workshop, readings by local authors and poets and more! All events are free and open to the public.
