Actually, it has nothing to do with computer memory/inadequacy. It's the way
the PDF files were set up in the first place. The books are password
protected and have been locked to prevent printing, etc. I'm sure this is to
comply with Australian copyright law.

Yes. Your printer has to download the whole book into its limited memory,
which is apparently inadequate to carry it all. PDF files require storing
incredible amounts of databits.

Look for the screen that tells you how many pages are in line to be printed.

Then edit so that instead of printing "all pages 1-46", for instance, you
first print pages 1 to 4. Then print pages 5 to 8, etc. until you're done.
Even a cheap printer can easily handle four pages of pdf text.
