Master Composter Volunteer Training
Friday, February 4, Application Deadline
at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
Master Composters are enthusiastic community 
educators committed to promoting responsible 
composting. Training involves 20 hours of 
in-depth class time to take place Thursday 
evenings, 6:30–8:30pm, 2/17-5/5 (no class 3/24) 
plus 20 volunteer hours of 
learning-through-doing. Trained Master Composters 
participate in outreach activities, working to 
reduce waste, protect the environment and improve 
gardens.  $40 training deposit, returned upon 
completion of volunteer hours.  Contact Adam

Landowners' Rights Regarding Oil & Gas Leases
Thursday, February 10, 11:00am-1:00pm
at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
A NY State Attorney General's Office 
representative will make a brief presentation, 
then consult with individuals on unresolved 
consumer problems until 1:00 pm. FREE and open to 
the public. No appointment is needed. 
Presentations are taped and broadcast on Cable 
Access Channel 15 on Mondays at 7:00 am, 1:00 pm

Getting Started: Vegetable Gardening
Wednesday, February 23, 6:30-8:30 pm

Learn where to site your garden, how to prepare 
the soil, how to start seeds, how to plant, when 
to mulch, which easy veggies to try first, and so 
on.  Pat Curran, Horticulture Educator, also will 
discuss favorite varieties, container gardening,

Make Your Own Maple Workshop

Winter Worm Composting Class
Saturday, March 5, 10:00am-12:00 pm

Learn all you need to know to set up and maintain 
a worm composting bin.  Every household leaves 
with a starter bin and worms. Children are 
welcome with an accompanying adult. Fee: $10 
includes starter bin & worms. Register early at

Community Supported Agriculture Fair

Coping with Household Insect Pests!

Cornell Entomologist Carolyn Klass will focus her 
discussion on the growing bedbug problem, 
carpenter ants, and Indian meal moths, but 
questions on other household insect pests are 
welcome.  Learn how to prevent  infestations, and 
what to do if they happen.  Pre-registration

Food Garden Panel Discussion
Wednesday, March 9, 6:30-8:30pm
at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
Don’t miss this panel discussion by several 
experienced food gardeners!  Master Gardeners and 
others with years of food growing experience will 
highlight some advanced ways to maximize your 
crop and extend the growing season.  This 
workshop will assume that attendees have had some 
growing experience.  For a more basic discussion 
of how to get started, go to the Feb. 23 class

Community Beautification Volunteer Training
(2) Tuesdays, March 22 & 29, 6:00-8:30 pm
at Cooperative Extension Education Center, 615 Willow Avenue, Ithaca NY
The Beautification Brigade takes care of  public 
flower plantings in Ithaca. Have fun, learn 
gardening techniques, and keep Ithaca 
gorgeous.  Free dinner provided at the 
trainings.  Free and open to anyone  who wishes 
to volunteer with the program.  Email
