It is a variant of the roots

הבר
חבר, חור, חפר
כבר, *כור
כפר
קבר

HBR; XBR, XWR, XPR; KBR, *KWR; KPR; QBR

of the basic meaning 'pileup, cover, overlap, hide', and by
implication 'large, huge', as the כביר KABIYR of Is. 16:14, of Is.
17:12 and of Job 15:10. Also the כפיר KPIYR, 'mature lion', of
Judges 14:5. Also the כפור KPOR, 'hoarfrost', of Ps. 147:16. Also
the act QABAR, 'bury, cover with earth'.
