Hello Wheatsville!
Some upcoming activities that I would like you to know about: Third
Thursday and our Spring Member Gathering!
It’s Third Thursday time again with all your friendly merchants of
Guadalupe will be providing fun activities for you and yours.
Wheatsville is having a May carnival of sorts with Bands, free root
beer and other samples, fire dancers, tarot readers and knee-high
chess!
From 6-10 pm on May 19th, we’ll have some fun for you all!
Here’s the basic run down:
At 6pm come for free samples and free St. Arnolds Root Beer as well as
free popcorn from our friends at In-Step.
At 6:30, our own band, Herb Pharm will get down and play their blues
for a while. These guys excited the crowd at the last Third Thursday
and at the Wheatsville Herb Fair and Artsfest.
At 7:30, we will be showcasing some fire dancing, which should be very
exciting!
Around 8:15, Joe, our bulk buyer’s band, Dreamsickle, will be playing.
They describe themselves as the pop rock honkytonk country dance party
reggae blues europower trio from Austin Texas on their web-site
www.dreamsickle.net
We’ll end the night from around 9:30-10 with some more fire dancing!
Throughout the night, play Knee-High Chess from the Austin Parks
Foundation www.austinparks.org . This cool set allows you to really get
into your game. Thanks to the Austin Parks Foundation for allowing us
to use their pawns.
Knee-High Chess is also available for public use at Wooldridge Square
on Saturdays, from 12:30pm-3:30pm (subject to availability of the
park).
You can also have your fortune told by Tarot by Kate.
There is a lot of activity up and down Guadalupe from the 23rd street
Artists market to 38th street. Look for pennants up and down Guadalupe
at participating businesses.
Our neighbors at Movin’ Easy had a great show all night with a variety
of dancers, instruction and demonstrations and they plan on having even
more fun this time.
The Austin Duck Adventure folks will be providing shuttle service again
this time. Lots of folks had fun seeing our neighborhood from a
different perspective.
Cream Vintage at 25th and Guadalupe will host DJ rhythmic from 6-10pm
spinning records in store (with amplified sound out front)
Go-Go dancers and a fire dancer out front (on mini stage)
23rd St. Artist's Market will have: music, a magician, and a massage
therapist
There’s more stuff to be announced… Check out the Chronicle next week
for a full page ad outlining the fun!
Spring Member Gathering at the Co-op May 22nd 1-4 pm.
Please Join us on May 22nd from 1-4 at the co-op for our Member
Gathering. We’ll have free samples, root beer, and 10% discount coupons
for all attendees.
Tours of the back-store and offices (by me!) every half hour starting
at 1:15.
Your Board of Directors will be available to discuss our expansion
plans and the future of the co-op as well as get feedback from you on
proposed developments.
Feel free to drop in when you can anytime during the gathering!
We would love to see you!
IN-STORE
We are proud to be offering Troller Point Fisheries Wild Alaskan
Seafood www.trollerpoint.com in our meat case again this year. This
small family-owned fishery is dedicated to environmentally safe
hook-and-line fishing in Alaska. Check out their Wild Alaskan Salmon,
Halibut and Black Cod. Black Cod is somewhat rare in US markets, but it
reportedly has exceptionally high concentrations of the healthful Omega
3s that people are looking for and it is supposed to be very delicious.
It is very popular in Japan. Bryan our meat guy is doing a lot to try
and expand our sustainable harvested fish selection at the co-op,
please let us know how we’re doing.
Thanks for continuing to support your co-op!
