Administrators of RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) machines on campus
can take advantage of a free proxy server service that is maintained
by ITS staff. The proxy server is used to retrieve updates without
having to download the updates directly from a Red Hat Network (RHN)
server. Instead, the updates are fetched from a UNC-CH machine where
they are cached. The hope is that this local cache will be faster and
more reliable for downloading updates to machines on campus.
Any existing RHEL machine that is registered with RHN and has a valid
entitlement (i.e. was purchased via the campus software license agreement)
can utilize this proxy server.
Directions for reconfiguring a RHEL machine in order to use the
campus proxy server can be found at

If you are interested in learning more about participating in the
campus RedHat site license agreement see
