> > Miller (WTF?) – Katy Cagle/Adam Pike
> > Our team was lucky enough to have everyone show great spirit and great effort throughout the regular season, so our spirit disc was given out based on individual effort shown in the tournament. We had two spirit disc winners this season and they were Katy Cagle and Adam Pike. Both players showed great amounts of hustle throughout the season and in the tournament and both made very few mistakes with the disc. Special thanks goes out to Cagle for coming out and playing awesome in the tournament after having a car accident that morning. I wish I had enough spirit discs to give one to everyone because this team was a pleasure to be a part of and everyone had great attitudes and were a blast to play with.

> > Dyer (Goldenrod) – Dave and Tiger Outterson
> > Dave and Tiger were mainstays for our team this year, missing a single game and always being ready to start the game for us. Dave was our guy to pull down the improbable catch in the end zone and Tiger was the one who would get a D to give us a spark. Dave also brought his wife Lisa each week, who helped corral the 65 children of our team's players. The Outtersons are the epitomy of what Winter League is all about: enthusiasm and the desire to improve, all the while keeping a smile on their faces. Thanks for the great season, Dave and Tiger!

> > M.V.P.A. - Most Valuable Purchaser of Alcohol: Marc Kessler
> > M.V.P.B. - Most Valuable Purchaser of Booze: Steve Frame
> > M.V.P.C. - Most Valuable Purchaser of Cheap Beer: Tom Herndon
> >
> > Payne/Purper (Werewolf Bar Mitzvah) – Meredith Neiss
> > At the Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, where boys become men and men become wolves, Meredith Niess distinguished herself with great play and great spirit! Many of our players showed determination and teamwork throughout the season, but her positive energy and readiness to laugh made this year especially enjoyable. With great pleasure, we award her the Spirit Disc and say thanks, Meredith, for the hard work and big smiles you brought to every game.
> >
> > Waldrup/Martin (burnt thumBer) – JC Osbourne
> > Burnt Thumber chose JC Osbourne as its SOTG winner this season. JC epitomized the meaning of the phrase “hard work pays off.” He also showed that no matter how long you’ve been playing, you always have something to learn. He really developed as a player this season and it was a pleasure to play with him.
> >
> > Prasad/Foster (Binge Thinkers – Daniel Schopler
> > Binge Thinkers gave the spirit award to Daniel Schopler for always coming out to the games with the ability to give a 100 percent effort. By throwing his body around time after time, laying out for hammers and skying for discs, Dan truly embodied the spirit of an athlete that deserved recognition.
> >
> > Pope/Minshall (Laser Guided Missile) – Clayton Greene
> > My man, My man....Missed only one game. Became a crucial factor on the BIG points by tourney time due to a catch and release selflessness that you just can’t teach. Hauling ass on the pulls and dusting his man deep on the turnovers, Clayton filled a niche that was crucial to our success, not to mention he is as nice as North Carolina weather. A true champion. Sorry ladies, he’s taken.
> >
> > Riley/Styers (Cookie Monster) – Claudia Barrett
> > It was difficult to choose only one player from such a spirited team. However, only one player suffered a broken bone for the Cookie Monster cause. Claudia Barrett played with her typically great spirit all season, including one game where she laid out for a spectacular catch. After the play she mentioned her finger was hurting, but she kept playing and helped Monster get the victory. Later diagnosed with a fractured finger from the play, Claudia had to miss a few regular season games but returned to provide solid play in the tourney.
> >
> > Brown/Crawford (Swing State) – Lee Surprenant
> > Lee Surprenant was the Spirit/MVP choice for Swing State. Lee stood out amongst a squad of very capable and determined defenders, making plays when we needed them most, and he was a “high value target” on offense as well. Special thanks also goes to Nick Crawford, who didn't expect to be a co-captain this season, but stepped up when asked and was invaluable in keeping the team focused and engaged throughout the season.
> >
> > Bivins/Burroughs (Ronnie James Dio) – Justin Brinkley
> > Ronnie James once wrote “between the velvet lies, there’s a truth that’s hard as steel.” Justin Brinkley was the mighty steel which forged the Spirit Sword of our team. On a roster of pure awesomeness, Justin’s unflagging optimism, near-perfect attendance, and wicked, nasty speed and ups were the purest manifestation of The Horns. Dio salutes him.
> >
> > Sakon/Williams (Tiger Sharks) – Sarah Morrison
> > The Tiger Sharks award our Spirit Disc to Sarah Morrison. Despite coming from a background of competitive ultimate, Sarah never lost her cool on the field, neither during questionable calls by opponents or questionable play by teammates. Also, she attended as many feeding frenzies (games) as anyone.
> >
> > Conklin/Gardner (Red Badge of ...) – Kevin Hedeen
> > Kevin Hedeen. With more amazing layouts than all the college kids on the team combined, a nearly spotless attendance record, and some amazing cheesecake making skills Kevin was the obvious choice for MVP/SOTG winner for Red Badge of...
> >
> > Seifer/Harris (Black Presidents) – Kristen Post
> > Kristen Post received the SOTG disc for bravery in the face of danger, honesty in the face of evil, and righteousness against overwhelming odds. She’s also a good sport while playing ultimate, but that doesn’t really have to do with the Spirit of the Gods Disc.
> >
> > O’Malley/Murray (Scrambles the Death Dealer) – Abram Harder
> > Only once in a blue moon does a totally unknown person turn out to be a great player and huge asset to their team. This was the case for Scrambles the Death Dealer’s Abram Harder this year. Abram earned the MVP disc with fearsome defense and patient offense all season.
> >
> > Chauvigne/Ribault (Red Scare) – Emily Stone
> > Emily Stone received the spirit disc from Red Scare. Emily consistantly has a great attitude, and was always open to learning more about the game. Red Scare was happy to have her as part of our team.
> >
> > Revell (Cull Lore of Phil) – Jess Richard
> > Jess Richard traveled from DC and beyond to play several games and the tournament with us! She also caught everything we threw at her and smiled constantly. Hopefully her brother will learn to follow her lead in life.
> >
> > Saba/Martin (Hangover Café) – JP Lien
> > We gave our spirit disc to JP for his dedication and great attitude. He always cheered us on and showed great sportsmanship. JP also scored the final point for Hangover Cafe (Baby Gray) and was a valued member of our team and its success.
> >
> > LeDonne/Poulos (Burnt Up) – Cody Ellis
> > Cody, who is 16 years old, was picked as our mvp/sotg winner for Burnt Orange because of his attitude and work ethic. Cody always had a smile on his face whether on the field or on the sideline, and never did I witness him being negative towards his teammates or competitors. What I liked best about this kid is that he was always willing to listen and had an open mind towards learning the game. He gave it his all every time he was on the field and went out of his way to ask questions to get a better grasp of the wonderful game of ultimate frisbee. Additionally, he scored many goals for us by utilizing his speed and youthful energy. I was very proud to have him as a teammate and thankful for the opportunity to coach him during this winter league season.
> >
> > Bolding/Peed (Jaundice) – Joe Kinnarney
> > Jaundice SOTG/MVP award went to Joseph Kinnarney. Every game Joe came with a contagious smile and some sort of intelligent and humorous remark that could keep everyone else enjoying themselves. He was never afraid to lay-out and had to be helped off the field on a few occasions, literally sacrificing his body for his team. Jessie and I thoroughly enjoyed playing with Joseph this season, and we look forward to playing with him in the future.

> > Rosenberg/Lang (NC State Tarheels – Brian Lang
